Suitability Assessment / Donor Screening
Both the intended parents and donors must undergo extensive medical and genetic screening, as well as psychological evaluation.
Donors must be medically screened in order to ensure that they are fertile and eligible to donate before making legal agreements with intended parents. This includes screening for sexually transmitted diseases as per regulations of Health Canada. At Halton Fertility & Women’s Health Centre, we offer genetic carrier screening for potential hereditary conditions for both intended parents and donors.
What to look for when choosing a donor:
- Known or Anonymous
- Physical Appearance/Ethnicity
- Medical History/Family History
- Repeat Donor
- Personality
Selection can be made through various agencies by the intended parents with the guidance of professional experts at our clinic.
